Drainage failure causing flooding and ice risk on school bus route

There is a drainage issue on High Maiden Way, Featherstone, near NE49 0JH, between Peat Gate and the arched bridge over the burn at Glen Que. A plastic drainage pipe is exposed and not properly installed or connected into the bank. Water is discharging directly onto the roadside rather than being properly channelled, causing persistent flow onto the carriageway. It has been indicated locally that the original concrete pipe was not correctly connected (“tapped in”), and this current arrangement appears to be a temporary or substandard workaround. This is resulting in: Localised flooding of the road Water running across/along the carriageway A significant risk of ice forming in colder conditions This section of road is regularly used by school buses and other vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents, particularly in freezing weather. The issue appears to be worsening due to erosion around the pipe outlet and requires urgent attention to properly secure and manage drainage. Please investigate and carry out necessary repairs as a matter of urgency.
