Damaged Road surface wjth potholes

Reported via mobile in the Surface Condition category anonymously at 20:02, Tuesday 3 March 2026

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9040409.

The road surface has deteriorated significantly over the past 10 months on Netherton Land and is in need of immediate resurfacing from the Coop upto Westlea. The condition of the road is so bad that drivers are opting to turn left and NOT right when they exit Westlea and then proceed onto B1331 and travel onto Ridge Terrace to get to Bedlington town center.

  • Thank you for bringing your concerns over the condition of Netherton Lane to our attention.

While funding for capital maintenance of roads has increased in recent years, it remains insufficient to address all repair needs across the County. As a result, decisions must be made regarding the relative priorities of repairs to ensure the most effective use of available funds. These decisions are made as objectively as possible, taking into account road condition, usage, and importance when determining maintenance priorities.

We will consider including this section in the annual Local Transport Plan (LTP) Capital Maintenance Programme. However, we cannot guarantee that they will be included next year, as they will be assessed against other competing priorities. Rest assured, these roads will continue to be monitored and considered in the development of future programmes.

In the meantime, the Area Highways Delivery Team will conduct a safety inspection of the road to identify any necessary remedial work. This will ensure the road and footway is maintained in a safe condition, in line with our maintenance policy.
