Light Intrusion ongoing
Reported via desktop in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category anonymously at 20:15, Thursday 26 February 2026
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9007446.
This problem was first reported 12.11.25 (ie the street light is shining directly into the bedrooms of the nearest property. As a solution, a shield to the rear of the light fitting was requested).
On 24.02.26 this problem was reported as 'fixed'. (The entire light fitting has been changed).
Unfortunately, rather than providing a 'fix', the new light fitting has made the original problem worse. (It is unclear whether any rear shield was overlooked from the latest the installation, or perhaps is intended to follow). Either way, please be aware that the light is currently still orientated to shine directly at bedrooms of the house, causing excessive light intrusion. This is completely avoidable without any compromise of street light and street safety.
With apology therefore for having to request a return visit; Please EITHER install a baffle at the rear of this light to shield the bedrooms as originally requested, OR (as a minimum) at least twist the light on the pole to face perpendicularly away (ie at 90 degrees) from the front line of the housing - currently the light fitting is clearly angled towards only one house such that it disproportionately sends light directly into bedrooms of that property. With many thanks once again for your efforts.

Brilliant! Fixed! (A plastic grid has been fitted securely immediately beneath the light which very effectively allows full illumination of the pavement and street but no light shining on the front of the houses or into bedrooms). We're really pleased with this outcome and impressed by the Council's response. Great job. Very many thanks.
