Unauthorised(?) closure of footpath

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category by Graham Rice at 13:38, Thursday 5 February 2026

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8845738.

The footpath (5245/052) joining Gilesgate and Haugh Lane, Hexham is still physically barred off by the adjacent building developer after being closed for a very long time at great inconvenience to pedestrians. All building work appears complete. Is this closure legal, is it covered by an Order and when is the footpath expected to open? Thank you.

  • Still open, via questionnaire, 13:22, Friday 3 April 2026

  • Why is this public footpath still blocked?. I think the developer has had quite long enough and is now taking li entries with a public right of way.
