Damaged/Missing Gates and Posts
Reported via mobile in the Wall/Fence/Gate Damage category anonymously at 16:21, Tuesday 3 February 2026
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8830748.
This problem commenced 26/4/24 when a police chase (as featured on C5 Motorway Cops, catching Britain’s Speeders 2/2/26) ended when the vehicle crashing into the barrier taking out one of the gate posts and bollards. As a consequence of this damage, the gates could no longer be closed or locked which has meant that umpteen vehicles cut through the dene at various times of the day and night causing a disturbance and damage.
The main gate post has rotted now so there is no longer a large gate to prevent vehicular traffic. The smaller pedestrian gate is attached but only just by one hinge but again, cannot be used.
As already stated in previous reports, it is a danger to walk down the paths as you are never sure if a motorbike, car or any other vehicle is going to knock you over. With the recent icy conditions, a vehicle even managed to slide down Ellesmere/East Ford Road only to be stopped by the (new) bin; the outcome could have been so much worse. If the gates had been fixed in good time, so many near misses and hazards could have been avoided.
This original issue was raised (REF 5931150) in 2024 with updates provided as requested and eventually the status changed to “investigating”but still the matter has not been rectified.
