Substandard repairs to potholes

Reported via desktop in the Surface Condition category anonymously at 17:43, Sunday 25 January 2026

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8764909.

Several potholes have been repaired on a spur road to the main junction of Morwick Road & Guilden Road which is not a main thoroughfare. The repairs are shoddy, the new tarmac is 15-20mm proud of the main surface, and have no edge seal. They will maybe last until the next frost. Is there an auditing procedure for the contractors who carry out these repairs? Apparently not!

  • Thanks You for your report. This does not meet the Councils criteria for a pothole repair. Northumberland County Council will instruct repairs on hazardous defects once a depth of ≥40mm and ≥300mm wide in any direction is assessed on a road. For a footway we will instruct repairs at an intervention level of ≥ 20mm. Each report is risk assessed by our Highways Inspection team up inspection.
