Badly designed cycle infrastructure

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 08:07, Sunday 25 January 2026

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8760982.

Loads of cars parking on side of road. Blocking the newly installed filter lane for cycles joining from the crossing. Don’t know if council are still to paint markings but there’s not enough room for parked cars and cyclists and passing cars travelling north towards Choppington. The new road layout has caused a dangerous situation for cyclists. Bravo. Cross hatchings in centre of wide road are massive and discourage safe overtaking. cars pass cycles too closely and avoid using the cross hatched area. Road should have had a designated protected lane for cyclists heading north. Parked cars and cross hatchings have created a pinch point. Road is worse now for cyclists on the carriageway. Car garage has constantly parked vehicles on road including recovery trucks. Road lay out has not considered cyclists using route to head north towards Choppington. Council seem to prioritise everyone cycling to town centres and supermarkets?! Did you forget about everyone cycling towards the HUNDREDS of new homes you’ve approved at CHOPPINGTON? Please reconsider this road layout for cyclists heading NORTH.
