Tree hitting my roof
Reported via mobile in the Trees damaging private property category anonymously at 17:32, Thursday 15 January 2026
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8696207.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to formally raise an urgent complaint regarding several council-owned trees located adjacent to my property, which are causing ongoing damage and present a serious safety risk.
I first reported this issue a couple of years ago, but unfortunately no effective action has been taken. Since then, the situation has worsened significantly. The trees are now repeatedly striking my roof, resulting in multiple damaged roof tiles. This is particularly unacceptable given that the roof is only three years old, yet I have already had to pay again for repairs directly caused by these trees.
The trees are not being maintained in any meaningful way and are becoming increasingly harmful to my property. I am now genuinely concerned that continued contact could dislodge my chimney, which would pose a serious risk of injury to anyone below, as well as major structural damage to my home.
I find this situation extremely frustrating and unfair. If this tree were on my land and causing damage to a neighbour’s property, I have no doubt that the council would issue an enforcement notice requiring me to act, or carry out the work themselves and recover the costs from me. I do not see why a different standard should apply when the trees are council-owned.
I am therefore requesting that urgent action is taken to inspect and properly manage all three trees. In my view, they currently represent a clear danger to my property and to public safety.
Please treat this matter as urgent and confirm what steps will be taken, along with a realistic timescale for resolving the issue. I would appreciate a written response.

Still open, via questionnaire -
Dear Sir/Madam,
I refer to my previous written complaint submitted in January regarding council-owned trees adjacent to my property which are causing ongoing damage and present a safety risk.
To date, I have received no response whatsoever. This lack of acknowledgement or action is unacceptable, particularly given the nature of the issue and the risk involved.
The trees continue to strike my property, and further damage is occurring. As previously stated, I have already incurred repair costs to a relatively new roof, and I remain concerned about the potential for more serious structural damage or personal injury should this situation continue.
Given the absence of any response, I now require the following as a matter of urgency: • Immediate acknowledgement of this complaint • Confirmation of when the trees will be inspected • A clear timescale for remedial works • Clarification of the council’s position regarding liability for damage already caused
If I do not receive a satisfactory response within 7 days, I will have no option but to escalate this matter further through the council’s formal complaints procedure and seek independent advice regarding recovery of costs and any ongoing liability.
This issue has already been ongoing for a considerable period and should have been addressed long before now.
I look forward to your prompt response.

Photo taken 4.5.2026 and still no response from council at all , think they are waiting until birds start to nest and then they will use that as an excuse to to cut tree for yet another year
