Grit bin needed

Reported via mobile anonymously at 12:27, Saturday 10 January 2026

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8661489.

The top corner is a turning point for all vehicles in the street so snow and ice becomes compacted very quickly. There is also a disabled person living alone in one of the houses in the top cul de sac who can only get about the estate in her wheelchair, which remains impossible for several days if the ice is compacted down on this corner. She also has a number of carer and nurse visits daily which increases vehicle numbers. If there was a grit bin we would be happy to spread it as required to assist our neighbour and the carers

  • The criteria for the installation of a new grit bin are points based and include the severity of slopes and bends, the category of traffic using the road, whether the highway is on a Primary 1 gritting route for roads or footways, the presence of an existing grit bin within a 200-metre radius, and footway footfall. The Highway Inspector for the area will assess the location against these criteria to determine whether a new grit bin is required.
