Hedgeley bank very icy

Reported via desktop in the Gritting Request - Roads category anonymously at 09:41, Tuesday 6 January 2026

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8633198.

Historically NCC put a heap of grit at the top and bottom of Hedgeley bank before winter, they now don't. Hedgeley bank has been ploughed but not gritted and is now very icy and dangerous, access to Crawley is by 4x4 only.

  • This road is on a Priority 2 Secondary Gritting Route. We grit these roads when widespread ice is expected to continue throughout the day or during light snowfall. These roads include: Access roads to communities with no alternative gritted routes Important bus routes Urban distributor roads (roads that connect local streets to major roads) In rural areas, grit heaps may be placed on verges alongside roads on steep hills. Where resources allow, these grit heaps will be replenished during the winter for public use. You may use this grit to help clear snow and ice from roads. This report has now been closed. Thank you.
