Access to Protected Pedestrian Walkway Along Seaton Burn, South of Middle Farm, Seghill I am writing to raise a serious concern regarding the continued unregulated access to the protected pedestrian walkway that runs along the Seaton Burn, to the south of Middle Farm in Seghill. During a recent walk along this path, I encountered three masked youths riding motorbikes up the track. They proceeded at speed along the pedestrian route and continued on in the direction of Cramlington Nature Reserve. This was a deeply unsettling experience, not only because of the noise and disturbance but also because of the clear danger they posed to anyone using the path legitimately. This walkway is regularly used by pedestrians and dog walkers, and it is also frequented by horse riders. The presence of motorbikes on this narrow route creates a significant risk of accidents or injuries. Beyond the impact on public safety, this behaviour is also highly disruptive to local wildlife. Deer and other animals are frequently seen in the surrounding woodland, and the noise and intrusion caused by motorbikes can have a damaging effect on their habitat. Given these concerns, I would like to ask why appropriate access controls have not been installed—such as a gate, barrier, or similar mechanism—that would allow pedestrians and cyclists to pass through but prevent access to motorcycles. Such measures are used effectively in many other rural and semi-rural areas to protect public rights of way while still maintaining accessibility for legitimate users. This route is an important local amenity, and I believe that taking steps to protect it would be in the best interests of the community, local riders, and the wildlife that depends on this environment. I would appreciate clarification from the Council on what measures, if any, are planned to address this issue, and whether the installation of a suitable barrier could be considered as a priority. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
