A New Grit Bin request problem has been found

Holstein Close. Grit bin request. Its on a steep hill & lots of elderly live there. Please could you let customer know if/when its been assessed. Thanks

  • The criteria for the installation of a new grit bin are points based and includes the severity of the slope and bends, the category of traffic, if the highway is on a Primary 1 gritting route if there is already a grit bin within 200m radius and the footfall. Our Highway Inspector for the area has been to assess the need for a new grit bin and unfortunately the area does not meet the criteria as it is unadopted highway. The local town or parish council can purchase a grit bin from Northumberland County Council to be placed in a location that does not meet the winter service criteria but is viewed by them as a requirement and is in a location that can be safely accessed by Highways crews for refilling and does not obstruct the public footpath. These grit bins will usually be green. This report has now been closed. Thank You
