No lighting -hazard to pedestrians

Reported via desktop in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category by John Casken at 23:02, Sun 23 November 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8455588.

On the curve in Burnhouse Road opposite No.41, there is no street lighting. This area of footpath is in total darkness at night - a hazard for pedestrians (it’s easy to lose your footing and slip off the pavement) and can be intimidating to the elderly and to women. There is a post across the road with electrical fixtures. Could this post be used for a new light? I always have to carry a torch if out walking along this stretch of road at night. I’ve lived on Burnhouse Road since 2016 and there has not been a light in this position in all that time.

  • Thank you for contacting Northumberland County Council. Unfortunately, we do not receive funding for additional lighting. I will add your details to our list of resident requests should any funding become available in the future.

It may be worthwhile contacting your County Councillor who does have a small allocation to carry out schemes within their area and they may be willing to consider your request as one of their small schemes.
