Mud and rocks left in road

Reported via mobile in the Mud on Road category anonymously at 21:11, Monday 15 September 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8169831.

Since the start of the new housing development this roundabout has become very dangerous with mud left on the roads from the A1068 and along Percy Drive. There are big rocks and mud flying up off trucks that leave tge building site and my new vehicle has been hit by flying stones of a vehicle causing damage to my new vehicle. Who is going to pay for this damage? The council or the developers? Although this road does occasionally get swept, the road sweeper is insufficient for the size of stones being left on the road. With the heavy rain we have had today and with the mud on the road, it became very dangerous and slippy. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident happens. I just hope it isn't a motorcyclist. All the rocks and stones are just getting shoved up against the traffic Islands and accumulating and are not getting cleared. It is a disgrace everyday.

  • Unfortunately, this is a daily occurrence because vehicles are coming off the new housing but are not checking their vehicles for mud, stones, or boulders wedged between their tyres prior to going on the public highway. Hence why the highway is getting covered in debris. This debris is a dangerous hazard to other road uses and subsequently has caused damage to my new vehicle. Who is responsible? The council or the housing development? I understand that a road sweeper can't sweep the road after every vehicle leaves the site. However, the truck driver can check his vehicle before he leaves the site which should be compulsory and I think this is.
