Subject: Safety Concerns Regarding Communal Yard at 74 Union Street, Blyth
I am writing to raise a serious concern regarding the communal yard at 74 Union Street. My elderly father, who resides there, has now suffered two falls while walking through the yard. As you can appreciate, safety becomes increasingly vital as residents age—especially when fresh air and gentle movement are among the few comforts available.
My father has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Getting outside for fresh air is not only beneficial to his wellbeing, but essential. However, due to his limited mobility—he is unable to lift his legs and shuffles as he walks—the current condition of the yard poses a significant risk. The uneven surface and loose concrete and stones present clear trip hazards, and he no longer feels safe using the space.
I kindly ask whether the yard floor could be repaired and the loose debris removed to make the area safer for all residents, particularly those with mobility challenges. This would make a meaningful difference to my father’s quality of life and help prevent further accidents.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I would be grateful for any update or action you can take.
