Path is uneven and needs repaired to be smooth as unaccessible for people with walking aids (trolley and stick)

Reported via mobile in the Slabs - Uneven / Damaged / Cracked category anonymously at 21:21, Friday 22 August 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8062984.

This has been ongoing for years but this path is not fit for accessible use for people using walkers and sticks. I cannot walk on the path with my trolley as the path is covered is huge rocks and not walkable.

  • Location: Little park behind Bluebell Rise Issue: Inaccessible surface for mobility aid users

Description of Path The path in question is surfaced with loose gravel and small stones. It is relatively narrow, with uneven grassy edges on either side. The surface is irregular and lacks a firm, stable foundation.

Accessibility Concerns 1. Surface Stability • Loose gravel does not provide the firm and slip-resistant surface required for safe passage with mobility aids. • Wheels of four-wheeled walkers can become stuck or unstable, increasing the risk of tipping or loss of balance. 2. Uneven Terrain • The surface is inconsistent, with patches of larger stones and ruts, which present hazards for people who require smooth rolling surfaces. • Users may experience difficulty maintaining control of their walker. 3. Narrow and Unsafe Edges • The path is narrow, bordered by uneven grass. If walker wheels veer off the gravel, it creates additional instability and safety risks. The current path design significantly restricts access for disabled people who use four-wheeled walkers. It increases the risk of falls, reduces independence, and effectively prevents safe and equal enjoyment of the park/green space.
