Several missing signs

Reported via desktop in the Missing or damaged signpost category anonymously at 18:06, Thursday 22 May 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7606663.

When walking the Northumberland Coastal Path / St Oswalds Way, as we approached Easington Lane pedestrian railway crossing there were very few direction signs, so we went the wrong way a few times.

At that crossing there is a yellow pointer sign which suggested that we go right, along the fence line, rather than over the railway line. After almost half a mile we reached a padlocked gate, so retraced our steps & crossed the railway line, (having phoned for permission first.)

The initial section of our walk from Seahouses has virtually no signposts. We knew that we had to walk through the large car park, but it was a lot of guesswork.

  • Sorry you had problems route finding, both trails do cross the railway, but will check the waymarking. By the sounds of it, you were following the old route of the Northumberland Coast Path from Seahouses, it now uses the same route as the England Coast Path out of the village, then via Shoreston Hall & Red Barns and into Bamburgh, where it once again rejoins the route of England Coast Path to just before the Easington Lane crossing, where the routes diverge. I hope your enjoyment of the walk wasn't spoilt too much?
