Bridleway

Reported via desktop in the Ploughing/cropping category anonymously at 15:13, Thursday 22 May 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7605804.

The crop along the length of the bridleway has not been cut or sprayed off, if the route has been redirected then there are no signs to this event. the crop is now knee high at least and the route has been avoided, this means people have used the road to the permissive path and so are actually trespassing!

  • Not been back that way to check, but knowing the farmer it is a distinct possibility nothing has been done, he has said in the past that he would prefer it diverted down the road to the permissive path along the old railway due to not wanting to loose crop to a bridleway! he gets paid a subsidy to keep it open though!

  • Not had chance to look, but given the amount of harvesting in the are I would guess the field is harvested by now circumventing the problem and yet again the farmer will have got away with not cutting the bridleway even though he is subsidised for it, I will need to check next year and refer to the Ag people that control the subsidies!

  • No change as far as I know, but given most fields have now been harvested and ploughed, there will be a clear route across the field but it is unlikely that the route has been marked on the ground, there will just be a ploughed field, and given they have 14 days to reinstate the bridle way after any cultivation and 24hrs thereafter I doubt it has been done, it for the council to follow up and insist it is done.
