The road surface is badly damaged across more than half the width of the road so that it is impossible to miss in a car. Some repairs have been completed higher up the hill but at this location there are two deep potholes.

This section of road has been in a poor state for a few years and continues to decline. Some potholes have been filled previously but the section just above Middleton Hall Farm is in a poor state. This is a busy section of road that is used by residents, estate workers and tourists visiting the Harthope valley.
