URGENT - Missing kerb/verge and road erosion

Reported via desktop in the Kerbs - Missing category anonymously at 20:02, Tuesday 15 April 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7440828.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing regarding dangerous erosion of the verge and tarmac of the road in front of my house (see attached photos). The degree of erosion has now started to expose the concrete base/slate path to our gate. This has become a matter of urgency and safety after yesterday when a vehicle struck the concrete/slate path resulting in significant damage to both the path and vehicle (taking it off the road).

The erosion has occurred as there is no kerb or drainage gulley along this section of road. This means that when there is heavy rain a large volume of water runs along the road edge eroding the tarmac and verge. Furthermore, large vehicles frequently mount the verge which has caused it to collapse and erode further.

The entire village has a kerb clearly marking the edge of the verge or path, other than the road in front of our house which is the main road through the village and therefore is exposed to relatively large volumes of traffic moving between the A69 and Prudhoe/Wylam. Our house sits on this road and is within the village envelope and ‘welcome to the village’ signs.

Please urgently install a kerb along this section of road as it has now become a matter of safety. Installation will ensure safety for road users, improved drainage and prevent further erosion of the tarmac and verge.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
