Disgraceful amounts of litter along roadsides

I am writing to raise a complaint regarding the continued and unacceptable litter problem along the verges and roadsides in East Sleekburn. Despite a reported litter pick on the 5th of April, the area remains in an appalling state — as though no clean-up has taken place at all.

Rubbish is clearly visible along the grass verges, embedded in shrubbery, and strewn across the roadside edges, particularly around the slip roads and spine road. As it stands, the litter gives a terrible first impression and poses a real risk to local wildlife. It’s not just an eyesore, it’s an environmental hazard that needs addressing properly.

I’m aware that litter collections are only scheduled three times per year in this area. That frequency is clearly inadequate, especially when one of those few collections has already taken place on April 5th. It’s difficult to believe anything was done at all.

I briefly contacted our local councillor about the issue, but was met with a passive response and told the area looked “better and still more needed to be done.”

I strongly urge the council to review the litter collection schedule which is clearly not meeting the needs of the area, and organise a proper and thorough clean-up as soon as possible.
