Speeding vehicles in a 30 mph zone

Reported via desktop in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category anonymously at 20:22, Monday 10 March 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7257423.

This stretch of road is a 30 mph limit. Vehicles are travelling in excess of 40 mph and more. There are no legal 30 mph speed restriction road signs in this area. Cars , lorry’s, buses all exceeding the limit. A new housing development has just been built so no we have extra vehicles joining this road. Trying to cross this road is very dangerous. The county council has a duty of care to all road users and pedestrians using this stretch of road etc. Speed restriction signs required for 30 mph, traffic calming measures required, zebra crossing required. You now have young children playing on the grass to the entrance of the estate. I have now complained several times in the past 18 months and nothing has been done. The traffic needs to be slowed down before there is a fatality.

  • Thanks for your email. The average speed on this section of road is 30.35mph. This suggests that intervention may be required, including police enforcement of the speed limit. We will investigate this further and consider what could be done, including a potential pedestrian crossing. Not that additional 30mph signs are not permitted where street lighting is present.
