Embankment being eroded away with rainn and wind

Reported via mobile in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category by Malcolm Dickman at 19:46, Monday 3 March 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7220466.

The embankment is piling up I on the footpath as the weather has caused it to erode away. It’s had eroded away so much that the grass machine can’t get through to cut the grass in the triangle by the garages. The retaining wall ends and the soil is piled up along on to the footpath . Best solution would be a small retaining wall 4 or 5 tiers high along the footpath on the corner that is effected, piling the soil back up on to the bank will only cause it to fall back on to the path . Needs sorting asap any more rain and it will just wash the soil down the footpath .

  • Seems to take them forever these days, can’t even rely on them to send anyone out to check what the problem is never mind fix it . They need to go back to when there was a clerk of the works who used to check the jobs before and after.

  • Pulled out lots of Brambles, big roots are coming out of the bottom on to the footpath as per photograph . This is very unstable needs attention ASAP if we get a lot of rain it will wash the bank away even further .

  • Council came out from the Grass cutting department, I was told it would be reported to the Highways department. Don’t know if it has or not. No one got back to me about the problem. Tried to report it to Higways dept myself just put me back on to “Fix me Street “. Needs to be looked at ASAP

  • There has been several people out to look at this embankment, all from the Grass cutting dept. They all say the same thing it needs to be looked at by the Highways department. Two workers came out last week to clean up the leaves, nothing to clean up as that problem was reported months ago, I ended up doing the job myself , they also said it should be dealt with by Highways . The embankment still not fixed, asked if it’s been passed to the Highways department no one seems to have an answer. Getting to the point where I will put a complaint in re the lack of communication, this problem needs sorting ASAP 😡
