Heras fencing causing damage, unnecessary risk in high winds, and unsightly

Reported via mobile in the Crash Barriers - Damaged/Unsafe category anonymously at 19:06, Tuesday 4 February 2025

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7086497.

Heras fencing has been placed in various triangle formations in the historic Henry VIII gun turret ruins in Berwick-upon-Tweed. These ruins are a part of the Bell Tower and medieval fortifications around the town and are of significant historical importance. The heras fencing is damaging the stone as it sways in the wind and is causing damage to the important structure. As well as the damage, we have had some really high winds recently and this fencing could very well cause further damage to the structure or nearby housing. It is also extremely unsightly and will have a huge negative impact on the tourist offer of the town. This walkway is regularly used by tourists staying in the Haven caravan park and by those on historical walking tours of the town. They should be removed immediately as they add nothing to safety (they are easily bypassed) cause risk to building and people (especially in high winds) and are very unsightly.
