Investigating
Access Posts
Reported via desktop in the Pedestrian Barriers - Damaged / Missing category anonymously at 11:29, Fri 6 December 2024
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6826986.
The access posts from Main Road to Cherry Tree Lane are to close together to allow access to Cherry Tree Lane & on to Algernon Terrace. Due to the pavement on the Main Road now having a slot in it for a Services manhole access plate & the posts being to close together you cannot turn a Mobility scooter without damaging the sides to access the pavement. It is not necessary at this access to have a number of posts and they are serving no purpose but to make it difficult to access the village using a Mobility Scooter or ram. Likewise the single post at the Algernon Terrace end is serving no purpose but causing the same problems.

Still waiting for this simple item of work to be done. Why does it take Northumberland Council so long to slice through a 4" concrete post with a Stihl Saw & put it into the back of a van. Maybe someone on Social Media might know when it is published regarding NCC's difficulty in doing so.

I first made my request regarding two items in Wylam - Access the centre of village on Mobility Scooter obstructed by access Posts in centre of path & Service Provider sunken Manhole protruding on to Public Path preventing turning & no dropped curb to allow access to footpath outside White Medical Doctor's Surgery. In December 2024 & despite again contacted yourselves & Wylam Parish Council have not even had the curtesy of a reply. I think it is shocking that the Council has not the curtesy to reply to these requests & take the attitude Disabled people are irrelevant. Had the council in their inadequate wisdom had not allowed a Service Provider to cut into the pavement for their manhole cover hence obstructing someone on a mobility scooter or a hazard to Pedestrians to turn out of the posts this would not happen. Let me assure you that if a satisfactory reply is not received by the 19th Nov 2025 the whole situation will be posted on Social Media.

Posts still there & still no sign of a Council Workman to remove it. Must take some time to a lot a Senior Manager to oversee the job, A Junior Manager to convey instructions top the workforce, Driver to bring the workforce, Driver to drive the pickup with the equipment, A Driver to drive the pickup to remove the rubbish, An operator to work the traffic lights to control the Pedestrians, A Health & Safety Operative, Union Representative , Oh!!! & a guy with a Stihl saw to remove the offending Post.
