Tree roots damaging path /trip hazzard

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6565352.
We asked for the tree in front of our house to be removed around 10 years ago. This area of the street was in absolute darkness at night due to the tree blocking the street lamps. The council came out and removed the smaller tree behind it, which helped for a while but never truly rectified the problem.
The tree is now twice as tall as the house itself. The house is 50 years old so I'm presuming the tree is the same age? The roots have spread under both the path and our front garden towards our house, the front garden is riddled with roots and is impossible to dig.
The public footpath between the tree and the house is so unbelievably damaged and uneven because of the roots. An injury insurance claim against the council just waiting to happen.
This summer I have witnessed / gone to the aide of 2 children and a elderly dog walker, all on separate occasions, who have tripped and fallen on the path.
Pictures taken after it rained shows how uneven the path is, that puddle is 8cm deep. The branches now reach out over the path onto our property. We are concerned about what the roots of this huge tree will / may be doing to the foundations of our house. The tree is so tall now it seriously affects street lightening on our side of the road at night. I am concerned with winter looming as pedestrian safety on the path, when it's dark, will be in jeopardy.
We would like this tree either chopped right back, though this would not solve the root issue, or ideally removed completely. We are happy to plant a new more sensible sized tree in it's place.
Please could this be looked at as a natter if urgency before someone gets seriously injured.
Thanks.
