Fallen branches from large mature ash tree onto highway

Reported via desktop in the Trees affecting highways or pavements category anonymously at 09:47, Tue 6 August 2024

Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6321643.

Yesterday, large limb from tree fell onto highway. Fortunately no one was passing at the time. As I was on hand, I cleared the blockage to let vehicles through. A large proportion of the tree overhangs the highway. The edge of the tree is [difficult to measure due to slope] about 1 metre from the road margin. The tree is growing outside the field boundaries. I am concerned about safety and believe the tree needs to be checked and probably trimmed. I have also written to highways to check who is responsible for the tree. Thank you for your time. Mr C Collins [landowner of adjacent fields]

Updates

  • Thank You for you report. We will investigate the matter and update you accordingly.

  • No word from Council about tree inspection nor advice as to who has responsibility. Potential risk from further fallen branches remain and I’m concerned that nothing is getting done.
