Japanese knot weed
Reported via mobile in the Weeds category by Paul Henderson at 18:30, Sun 12 May 2024
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5963313.
On the verge along side the foot path, there is a clup / row of Japanese Knot Weed. It is just before the Longhurst road sign on the way into Ashington from Pegswood. There is also some on the other side of the road just before you reach Ashington. This is the first knotweed I have seen in this area and it urgently needs to be dealt with before it spreads and takes a stronghold in the area.

I noticed some Japanese knotweed on the roadside going into Ashington from Pegswood. This is the first I have seen in this area and would like to think NCC would give priority to treat this nasty weed to get rid of it but nothing seems to have been done.

Someone has sprayed some of the Japanese Knotweed on the side of the road heading into Ashington but there is still a large amount still growing. The other patch, closer to Ashington on the other side of the road has not been touched.

The knotweed is still in the same two places I reported it, which is shocking as it is a horrendous controlled weed any the Council should deal with it promptly and efficiently in the correct approved manner. I happened to come across an article where a home owner was fined £30000 for failing to report and control Japanese Knotweed on their property!! Please get this weed correctly removed before it spreads.

Obviously no one bothers to read these comment, or have anyone capable of addressing the issue. When I moved my garden fence, Northumberland County Council were quick enough to make me apply for planning permission. Then tell me to take it down when you lost my application, pleased I got a receipt when it was handed in personally. As my previous comment, a land owner was fined £30000 for failing to report and deal with Japanese knotweed. I am sure Northumberland County Council would be quick enough to take action against an individual for this or something similar, pitty no one is botheted to ensure this infestation of Japanese knotweed is sorted out. Dont know if it is the knotweed but there a lot of blooms, which looks to be going to seed, potentially making the problem worse. Is anyone doing anything about this horrible weed. I am sure if it spread to your garden you would not be very happy???

Nothing has been done to deal with the knotweed. It has seededa and undoubtedly spread. It is now starting to die back at the end of the growing season. Again, I am confident no one reads these comments, let aloan doing something about the issue.

Nothing has been done about this issue, which shows the total incompetence and lack of ability for anyone in Northumberland County Council to sort out an issue, which should be taken very seriously as an individual elsewhere in the country was fined £30000 for failing to control Japanese Knotweed on their property. Can you please contact me on 07776253293 to explain why nothing has been done to resolve this issue.

Still nothing done, the knotweed has now partially died back and will no doubt come back syronger and bigger next year for you to continue to do nothing about. Absolutely atrocious.

Yet again, nothing done. Obviously no one bothers reading these replies. The knotweed has died back for the winter and will be no doubt back twice as strong when it starts to grow again, especially as nothing was done with it last growing season. As below, I am not sure why I need to check the status?? I think you need to do something about this!!!

Same answer the weed is now dormant for the winter and will start growing again in March / April, covering a larger area and be even harder to control and eliminate. Does anyone ever bother reading this? If so please email me on prhenderson.prh@gmail.com to let me know what is going to be done about this?? Thank you.. Paul.

As previously explained, the Japanese Knotweed has died back for the winter and will start growing back anytime soon, stronger and more vigorous than last year, as it does. I look forward to see if anything is done about it this year??
