Footpath overgrown with spiky hedges
Sent to Northumberland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5273550.
My son was walking on the footpath (what is left of it) and scratched his arm due to the overgrown hedges.
When are you going to get the overgrown hedges sorted on the footpaths of Hepscott?
If nothing is being done I will be taking these problems to the ombudsman or councillor.
I cannot understand why you don't send these people notice to cut their hedges back onto their property and charge them if they don't comply.

Northumberland County Council Update-
We have investigated the issue reported and found that it is on private land. However,
we do have powers under Section 154 (1) of the Highways Act 1980, to advise the
owner/occupier of adjoining land they are required to cut back vegetation so as to
remove the cause or likelihood of danger, obstruction or interference to the users of the
Highway (footpath). In most cases the vegetation is cut back very quickly by the owner/
occupier, but in some instances this can be a lengthier process but be assured we will
follow due process to ensure the work is carried out.

This hedge is actually getting worse.

You cannot walk on the path because of the hawthorn spikes. It absolutely disgusting nothing has been done. It is dangerous walking on the road so near the junction. Get them chopped down!

These hedges protrude the public footpath and nothing has been done again. I can't believe that the council doesn't capitalise on easy fines for these arrogant people that have no common decency to let people walk on a footpath without having to dodge a prickly hedge. Absolutely disgusting.

Really don't know why nothing has been done????? What is the point of reporting anything? My son's bag has also been damaged on these hedges.

Why doesn't someone come and walk on the path with the overgrown hedge and see what it's like.

Why do you keep asking after 2 years and nothing has been done? It was like the estate path maintenance that you said was going to happen this year that didn't exist, you can't walk on most of the paths as the tree roots have wrecked the tarmac and some have subsided. You take our council tax and provide hardly any services in Hepscott. There has been a branch lying in Field House Close for 5 months, I have seen council vehicles on the estate but you have not removed it. It could be potentially a hazard if it blew in front of a car.
